Private Homebases, Shared Living & Local Rhythm
La Joie is known for creating private, fully hosted homebases for small circles of women — places that are lived in, not visited. In Morocco, that philosophy unfolds through a deeply immersive experience shaped by everyday rhythms, human connection, and a quiet intimacy with place.
Together, we inhabit Morocco from the inside: living in a privatized riad, sharing meals, moving slowly, connecting with local communities, and allowing the culture to reveal itself naturally. This is not about highlights or schedules, but about presence. A carefully held journey that blends guided experiences with open time, offering both structure and space to move in your own way.
You are invited into a lightly curated flow, with the freedom to join shared moments or follow your own rhythm.
We begin in Casablanca before traveling south toward the edge of the Sahara, where days unfold gently. Mint tea in the courtyard. Quiet mornings beneath date palms. Time to wander the local souk, read, rest, walk, or simply be. Life becomes simple, shared, and grounded in the pace of the place.
Living Morocco Beyond the Homebase
During our time together we also make space for shared journeys, discovering different layers of Morocco through its cities, villages, and desert landscapes. We begin in Casablanca, the country’s vibrant economic heart, where art deco architecture meets ocean air and the Hassan II Mosque rises above the Atlantic. Walking its streets, we feel the pulse of modern Moroccan life before continuing south, gradually shifting from urban rhythm to a slower, earthier pace.
From there, we travel toward Tagounite, a small village at the edge of the Sahara, where the landscape opens and time stretches. Here, daily life is shaped by desert light, palm groves, and quiet courtyards. As evenings arrive, the sky deepens into gold and rose tones, and nights are filled with stars so bright they feel almost unreal. It is a gentle transition from movement to stillness, from city to desert, from doing to simply being.

Freedom to Explore
Our Homebase is not a fixed program — it is a shared home where everyone follows their own rhythm. Some may join the lightly curated experiences we offer, while others might choose to move independently, rest, or wander nearby villages. One morning could be spent at the local souk, another by a river on a picnic, while someone else might stay back with the book and the shade of a palm tree. Nothing is prescribed — the beauty is in living side by side, each shaping their own flow while still belonging together.
Desert Living & Giving Back
We are committed to supporting local families, cooperatives, and artisans in every place where we live together. In southern Morocco, life unfolds close to the land, shaped by date palms, traditional farming, and knowledge passed through generations. We spend time with a local women’s cooperative, where craft becomes both cultural preservation and economic independence, and where connection is natural and unforced.
One day, we venture deeper into the desert to glamp among the largest dunes of the Sahara. Traveling by 4x4 through open sand feels vast and freeing. At camp, we share a traditional meal, listen to local music under the stars, and sleep in luxury tents surrounded by silence. At dawn, the desert slowly shifts from indigo to gold, closing the experience with a quiet kind of wonder that stays with you long after you leave.
"It was magical how we all bonded immediately. We became a community in one special evening!"
"The end of the week came far too soon and everyone was deflated to be leaving after such a wonderful and joyful time."
"We enjoyed local delicacies at the various restaurants we visited. All the while, our camaraderie grew and flourished."
Where
Tagounite lies in southern Morocco, where the desert begins to open and the landscape softens into palm groves, riverbeds, and wide horizons. It is a small, grounded village shaped by agriculture, date palms, and the slow rhythm of life near the Sahara. Here, the air is warm and dry, the light is expansive, and the pace is guided by nature rather than schedules.
The region is part of the Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s most beautiful and fertile desert corridors, where long lines of date palms follow the river and villages are built from earth and clay. Kasbahs, gardens, and traditional homes blend into the landscape, creating a harmony between human life and the desert environment.
From Tagounite, the Sahara stretches outward into vast dunes and open sand, while nearby oases, small souks, and rural communities keep everyday life rooted and real. It is a place of quiet strength and simplicity, where culture, land, and people remain closely connected.

One night, we slept under the Moroccan stars, in luxury tents in the Sahara. Not as
spectators of the desert, but as guests of its silence, its vastness, its magic. Leslie
created this moment with such care and precision that it felt effortless, natural, and
deeply personal. Everything was authentic, beautiful, and quietly unforgettable.

How I Found Morocco - Meet Leslie
I never set out to find Morocco — yet somehow, Morocco found me.
Eight years ago, I decided to visit Morocco for the first time with a spare week I had after volunteering in Spain. I expected nothing more than the promise of a short adventure in an exotic country. What I discovered instead was a place that reached straight into my heart and quietly became home.
On the edge of the Sahara Desert in Southern Morocco, I spent one week volunteering with a Moroccan family that was rebuilding the grandparents property to be able to welcome guests as a riad - a Moroccan bed & breakfast.

Something here called to me. The family I met was pouring their hearts into a small business, determined to build a better life, and something in their story resonated deeply. I’ve always been drawn to foreign places, to adventure, and I wanted to help these humble, genuinely good people.
I kept returning, staying longer each visit, called back by a land, a culture, and a people who I felt slowly becoming family. I realized I was really getting to know this country, its rhythms, and its culture. I wanted to share all of this. Little by little, bringing guests here grew naturally—an extension of my own journey.
Co-creating with La Joie Homebase® feels completely natural—like slipping into a place I was always meant to be. Their philosophy of genuine, heart-centered community mirrors the spirit of southern Morocco, where connection, warmth, and authenticity are simply a way of life.
